Bana göre iyi bir yaşam birbiri ardına kahramanın yolculuğu yapmaktır. Yeniden ve yeniden macera diyarına, yeni ufuklara çağrılırsınız. Her seferinde problem aynıdır: kalkışacak mıyım? Ve sonra kalkıştığınızda tehlike sizi bekler, ve yardım da, ve başarı ya da fiyasko. Orada her zaman bir fiyasko olasılığı vardır. Ama mutluluk olasılığı da oradadır.

What I think is that a good life is one hero journey after another. Over and over again, you are called to the realm of adventure, you are called to new horizons. Each time, there is the same problem: do I dare? And then if you do dare, the dangers are there, and the help also, and the fulfillment or the fiasco. There’s always the possibility of a fiasco. But there’s also the possibility of bliss.

For the Hero's Journey, Joseph Campbell says, "This is a fundamental psychological transformation that everyone has to undergo," and he adds, "One can experience an unconditional affirmation of life only when one has accepted death, not as contrary to life but as an aspect of life."

Önümüzde kesinlikle yeni bir çağ var ve bu bir gezegenler çağı olacak. Ancak yeni çağların başlangıçları genellikle korkunçtur, büyük şiddet ve yang’ın en acımasız yönü çıkar ortaya. Yeni çağlar öyle yumuşak gelmezler, onlar saldırı ve çarpışma zamanlarıdır. Ben hiç ılımlı bir şeylere dair bir işaret görmüyorum.

Certainly there is a new age coming, and it will be a planetary age. But the beginnings of ages are usually terrible, with great violence, yang in a most brutal way. New ages don't come softly; they are times of aggression and smashing. I see no sign of anything gentle happening.

Cennet ve cehennem içimizdedir, ve tüm tanrılar da içimizdedir. Bu, M.Ö. dokuzuncu yüzyıl Hindistan’ındaki Upanişadların büyük kavrayışıdır. Tüm tanrılar, tüm gökler, tüm dünyalar içimizdedirler. Onlar yüceltilmiş rüyalardır; rüyalar ise birbirleri ile çatışma halindeki vücut enerjilerinin imge formundaki tezahürleridir. Mit budur. Heaven and hell are within us, and all the gods are within us. This is the great realization of the Upanishads of India in the ninth century B.C. All the gods, all the heavens, all the worlds, are within us. They are magnified dreams, and dreams are manifestations in image form of the energies of the body in conflict with each other. That is what myth is. Myth is a manifestation in symbolic images, in metaphorical images, of the energies of the organs of the body in conflict with each other. This organ wants this, that organ wants that. The brain is one of the organs.

Çorak bir ülkede insanlar aslında onların olmayan ama kaçamayacakları yasalar olarak onlara dayatılan amaçları yerine getirirler. Bu öldürücüdür.

The idea of the supernatural as being something over and above the natural is a killing idea. In the Middle Ages this was the idea that finally turned that world into something like a wasteland, a land where people were living inauthentic lives, never doing a thing they truly wanted to because the supernatural laws required them to live as directed by their clergy. In a wasteland, people are fulfilling purposes that are not properly theirs but have been put upon them as inescapable laws. This is a killer.
